Hi,

I have a question about one of the Router Sim Questions on the CCNA exam 640-607. The one that is really buggin me is this, where it asks you to...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
"password and encrypt the first five virtual lines, enable encrypted password on privlaged mode, and enable the password on the console. The passwords are in the table below: (it said something to that effect about the passwords being below, not sure if im exactly correct word for word..then below the paragraph after the semi colon it said)

Type Password
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, correct me if I am wrong please for my benefit and anyone that may come accross this.

The "line vty 04" followed by "login" then
"enable secret password"
will configure an encrypted password on the first five virtual lines which are lines 0 through 4, aswell as configure and encrypt a telnet password.

The "enable secret password" command after the "config t" command will enable an encrypted password on privlaged mode.

The "line console 0" command followed by "login" and then followed by
"password password" command will configure the console password as the question asks.

Now back to the words after the semi colon: under the paragraph where the question is asked. There were two words, they were...
Type Password

The question clearly states you will need 3 passwords, yet it appears you are only provided with two, to me atleast, or for the correct answer would I use Password for all of the Passwords?

The question is very frustrating with the given options. I feel I have a firm grasp on the entire concept of the router configurations and in any real life situation a boss or myself will supply the passwords required which would solve my whole problem here.

Forgot to add, I missed qualifications on the CCNA by two points today with a 847 out of 849. Aint that a kick in the lugnuts :D
I'll knock it out next time for sure, I just want to make sure I understand the format of their question here.

Any help or insight on this subject would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks for your time

hey kumar, do you remember if it provided you with the 3 passwords?
or did it say something weird like what i got. where you know you need to make 3 passwords but it only looks like the gave you two? Thats what happened to me.

line aux 0 is for aux password
line con 0 is for console password
line vty 0 4 is for the telnet password

and it looks like you configured rip correctly but i think they want you to ^Z and copy run start, then hit enter again to build you configuration, then it will say OK with the name of the router. atleast i think thats how you do it, but i didnt score so hot in that area either. I would also appreciate insight on the method to ciscos madness concerning these router sim questions.

Dear jarrad,
I really feel bad about the out come of your last test? May be it's not the willingness of the nature that you pass with just 849?
Any way you will get it clear in the next test? Just opposite 948!!
I request you to go through my "USEFUL TIPS"
when you get a simulation question don't be in hurry, Read carefully through the vertical and horizontal TEXT BOX with scrawl attached on the top and left side of the topology figure and note down with correct spelling what ever the clue is given, By default:
enable secret password of 'Cisco' Routers are class
console 0 & telnet password of 'Cisco' Routers are cisco
if not given any thing specifically, and passwords are case sensitive.
In your case you might be over looked the information like many others, and not done the full justice to the given simulation?
Wish you all the best,
Love
Tara

Dear Friend,
at the first place you do not deserve any reply from me, because you never observed the rule.
To configure Routing information protocol you must do the followings:
router rip
network 192.168.201.0 (any given network)
network 192.168.65.0
^z (control & Z together)
copy running-config startup-config
If it ask you to save the file or configuretion say [Y] or just press the Enter key.
Please do read the book?
Love

Hello Tara,

I just came across this forum and find it very interesting. First of all from reading all the kind words people have expressed to you, I like to commend you on your good hearted kindness to others. After all "what goes around comes around". I too am in need of your help. I just started study for the ccna test and want to accomplish the certification by the end of august. My situation is very unique. Presently I'm a network analyst who just got moved up to the cisco position with no experience whatsoever. So I am forcing myself to take advantage of this situation and get this certification. Am I right or wrong about this? There is no company out there that would let a person with no certification in cisco, upgrade an ios switch, troubleshoot frame relay connections and set up isdn failovers. All these things are new to me. So I have to get this certification. Sorry If I sound like I'm bragging. Just want to share my situation. Anyway Tara, If you can help me and allow me access to you breifcase I would appreciate it.
Thank you, soon to be cisco kid
