The Answer For A Broken Heart

THE ANSWER FOR A BROKEN HEART

Job 16:12

Sunday Morning Service

December 5, 1999

Fair Avenue Baptist Church

Local Government Sunday

Plus October 21, 1990

Text: Job 16:12

“…he hath broken me asunder…”

Broken…

Broken hearts…

Broken spirits…

Broken dreams…

Broken friendships…

Broken families…

Broken…

Have you stopped to realize that we live in a world where broken is the normal way of life?

I read the other day where 38% of America’s children live in a broken home – what a staggering number.

The tears…

The burdens…

The restless nights…

The heartaches…

The pain…

As we sit here this morning,

As I look over this crowd,

I know someone sitting in this auditorium is hurting.

Someone is broken,

Someone cried last night before they went to sleep,

Someone has a heartache.

The foundation for the message this morning is found in Proverbs 18:24, “…there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Teenagers,

There is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother, and friend is Jesus Christ.

Are you broken this morning?

Are you hurting this morning?

Let me give you three things to remember.

1.                 JESUS WILL BE CLOSE AND NEAR

Psalm 34:19, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth them out of them all.”

The Bible says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous…”

“Many”
“Many”

Yes, “many.”

“But, Lord, I’m hurting…”

“Lord, my heart aches…”

“Lord?  Lord?  Are you still there, Lord?”

And that still, quiet voice of our Lord says, “Yes, I’m here – I promised you in Psalm 34:19 that I would deliver you from them all.”

It reminds me of a mother’s love when her child is sick.  Mother is always close and near.  Always ready to deliver that sick child out of danger.

HEY- Jesus will always be close and near!

HEY- Jesus will always be there to deliver you!

HEY- Even when you are hurting,

          Even when you are broken.

Jesus will always be close and near!

2.                 JESUS HEALS THE BROKEN HEARTED

Psalm 147:3, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

A marriage is ended by divorce…

A child is taken in death…

A tragic disease afflicts a family…

A marriage is on the rocks…

Someone goes to prison…

A child breaks a momma’s heart…

A wife weeps for her husband…

So many broken hearts…

And I can’t help you,

But Jesus can.

He can heal the broken hearted,

He can bind up your wounds.

Hosea 6:1, “Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.”

I don’t know what you’re going through this morning…

I don’t know what heartache you have…

I don’t know what is breaking your heart…

But I do have a friend named Jesus who can help!

And not only will He help, but joy comes in the morning!

Psalm 30:5, “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

1.                 Jesus will be close and near

2.                 Jesus heals the broken hearted

3.                 JESUS WILL SAVE THE BROKEN HEARTED

Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

I’m reminded of the Samaritan woman,

I’m reminded of blind Bartimaeus,

WHY?

Because Jesus will SAVE the broken hearted.

I’m talking to someone here this morning and you’ve never put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ to take you to Heaven when you die.

I’m talking to someone here this morning with a broken heart – and part of your problem could be that you haven’t gotten saved and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and Him alone.

Maybe you’re here this morning and you just know that your heart is broken…

You’ve tried everything,

Drugs,

Alcohol,

Sex,

Education,

Religion, yes, religion,

And you still haven’t found the answer.

Maybe you need to get saved!

What does it take to get saved?

It just means putting your faith and trust in Jesus to take you to Heaven when you die.

It is similar to you getting on a plane to fly somewhere.

And just as much as you put all your faith and trust in that pilot to get you where you want to go – you must put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ to take you to Heaven when you die.

How do you get saved?  Let me give you four simple steps from the Bible.

1.                 Realize you a sinner

Rev. 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the seond death.”

Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”

Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

2.                 Realize that sin separates us from God

Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death…”

Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

3.                 Realize that Jesus paid for your sins

Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Are you in the habit of paying your bills twice?  That’s exactly what you are doing if you die without Christ and go to Hell.

4.                 Realize that if you trust Jesus, you can go to Heaven

Romans 10:9-10, 13, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

5.                 Realize that once you get saved, you’re always saved

John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Do you have a broken heart this morning?

Could it be that you need to get saved?

Jesus will always be close and near…

Jesus heals the broken hearted…

Jesus will SAVE the broken hearted…

Do you need to get saved this morning?

Are you saved, but have a broken heart?

Jesus is the answer.
