One thing I have noticed in the limited research that I have done is that the 3 "core" tests for both the CCNP and CCDP are the exact same ones. The only difference is that for the CCDP certification, you MUST have both CCNA "AND" CCDA (prerequisites). My question is this: If I get my CCDA (already CCNA) then do I get "two for ones" on the tests for the "Professional" paths...meaning if I take the BCMSN test for example, does it count for both paths or do I have to take it twice?? It would seem (if the CCDP was valuable enough) that it would be smart to get the CCDA first and then start taking the professional level tests since they count the same for both paths. Does this make any sense or am I just not thinking clearly?? :)
Again, any insight would be appreciated and if I can help anyone out in any way, don't hesitate to ask.

Sounds like you and I are on the same career cert path. It seems to me the best path would be to get your CCNP first. Once you're a CCNP, all you need to get your CCDP is to pass the CID 640-025 test. Just one more test! You're not required to get your CCDA before your CCDP *IF* you're already a CCNP. Does that make sense? If you take this path, you'll have one less test to take (minus the CCDA).

If you'd rather get your CCDA first, you'll need your CCNA (which you have) plus the DCN 640-441. That's it.

To get your CCDP before your CCNP, you'll need to get a CCNA, CCDA, Routing & Switching, Remote Access, and CID 640-025 tests. Whew! (I got all this out of the CCNP Routing and Switching textbook by Todd Lammle.

Personally, I'm studying for the CCNP now and getting the CCDA/CCDP later. With today's job market, the Associate Certs aren't nearly attractive as a Professional Cert. so I'd like one under my belt asap.

After all that, I double checked this order of certification at Cisco's site. They said that you need a CCNA and CCDA as prerequisites to the CCDP, which contradicts Todd Lammle's BSCN text book. Go figure. I would tend to believe Cisco over Todd Lammle.

CCNP is the technical sertification path. CCDP is more project oriented. I think CCDP have more focus the importance of understanding the requirements a company have for a network. And how to present a network design for the administration at the customers company. A important job. And the teory included in the CCDP path is good to get the designer in contact with the real requirements of a company.

CCNP is technical more in depth on protocols, routers, switches and so on. It is not releted to busines requirements.
