ALL about VLANs:
You need to add a new VLAN named Accounts to your swithced Network.
Which of the following are true regarding configuration of this VLAN?(Choose 3)
A. The VLAN must be created.
B. The VLAN must be named.
C. An IP address must be configured for the Accounts VLAN.
D. The desired ports must be added to the new VLAN.
E. The VLAN must be added to the STP Domain.

A+, ACT, MCSE NT4, MCP 2000
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we read the question carefully we can find all the answer in the questions it self.
1.add a new VLAN...Until you create one, nothing will be new, whether a user or a server or a LAN or a VLAN to be Add. (A)
2.VLAN named Accounts.... It clearly indicates you that, a VLAN needs a distinguished name to be identified in the network. (B)
Naming can be done according to user group using same kind of applications or software. According to a department or according to Product team.
3.your switched network...any switch to be configured according to the
port for easy inner VLAN communication, (D)
VLAN is used for broadcast containment, for bandwidth conservation and main purpose of Security. You need a Router for inter VLAN (VLAN to VLAN) communication. You must have an administrative authority, or you must be an Administrator to create, add or delete a VLAN.
Cisco doesn’t believe in guessing game?
Our new member Mr.kanadasan is absolutely right in his best answer!
VLANs not only work at layer 2 but it also works at layer 3 as well,of the OSI reference model.
E is not rubbish? Though STP (Spanning Tree Protocol)is not associated with VLAN but it is the essential ingridents of switched LAN Network, which prevents the Looping in switched network allowing multiple link between switches, keeping one link active (forwarding mode),while all other redundant links are in standby (Blocking mode) in case the primary link fails.
Where there is no redundant link between switches,if any one accidentaly try to connect a link between two switches when a connection all ready exists,Spanning Tree is the (only magic word)
excellent safeguard to save the entire Network from going down.
Love
Tara
*please note:just finding the question or it's answer by hook or crook is not enough,we must understand the concept and try to analyze & find out the answer by our self is important.*Go to Top of Page

Hi Tara,
Can you enlighten me as to what a 'Spanning Tree Protocol Domain' is? I know what STP is used for ,just never heard of an STP domain...
This is in reference to the VLAN question....

thanx.
