Seems as though I have posted this in the wrong place first time round. Looks as though this topic is more suitable.
Tara, I am Marcus, from Sweden, but living in the UK. I am hoping to sit the exam on Monday and am struggling with some questions.
I will post some of them and see if you have any ideas.
Many thanks.
1. A network is very congested. Currently all the devices are connected through a hub. Which solution would best decrease congestion on the network?
A. Add a second hub
B. Replace the hub with a router.
C. Replace the hub with a switch.
D. Replace the hub with a repeater.
I would have thought replacing the hub with a switch, as the router could cause bottlenecks, but I have heard using a Router is potentially the recommendation.
2. The exhibit shows the Cisco routers startup messages.
Which group of messages identifies the router components that you can configure during set up the initial system configuration?
A) System Bootstrap, Version 11.3(1)XA, PLATFORM SPECIFIC RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) Copyright (c) 1998 by cisco Systems, Inc, CS2600 platform with 32768 Kbytes of main memory
B) Rp,,pm 1 b f program load complete, entry point: 0x800008000, size: 0xef4e0 Self decompressing the image :############################[OK]
C) Notice: NVRAM invalid, possible due to write erase,
program load complete, entry point:0x80008000, size 0x415b20 Self decompressing the image: ###################################
##########################################################[OK]
Restricted Rights Legend….(abridged)
D) Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOC (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-JS-M), Version 11.3(2)XA,
PLATFORM SPECIFIC RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Copyright 1996-1998 by Cisco Systems Inc.
Compiled 10-Mar-98 14:25 by gneale
Image text-bas: 0x80008084, database: 0x809CD49C
E) Cisco 2611 (MP C860) processor (revision 0x100) with 24576K/8192K bytes of memory,
Processor board ID 04614954
M860 processor, part number 0 mask 32,
Bridging software, X25 software, Version 3.0.0,
2 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
I have little idea as to whether D or E is correct. I have scoured the Sybex and ICND books to little avail. I understand that D shows the code image running, and I also understand why it cannot be A,B or C...but can I rule out E?
3. You telnet to a host on a remote network. Which MAC address will be present in the ARP table when you issue the show arp command?
A. MAC address of the destination host Ethernet port.
B. MAC address of the local router Ethernet port
C. MAC address of the destination router Serial port
D. MAC address of the local router Serial Port
I would say B as an ARP broadcast will not traverse routers... but I may be missing something?
4. What is the purpose of Spanning-Tree in a switched LAN?
A. To provide a mechanism for network monitoring in switched environments.
B. To prevent routing loops in networks with redundant paths.
C. To prevent routing switching loops in networks with redundant switched paths.
D. To manage, the addition, deletion, and naming of VLANs across multiple switches.
E. To segment a network into multiple collision domains.
I am leaning toward C as we are dealing with switching, but B doesn't seem entirely incorrect either.
Any input/feedback/debates more than welcome :)
Thanks in advance
Marcus

Dear Marcus,
Welcome to the world of NWD's,Sooner or later it may supercede the famous rick D's top Forty!
Your Answer's are:
1. C. Replace the hub with a switch. (As you can segment the LAN with switch to give more bandwidth & reduce collision)
2. D. (Look what happens after you type " SHOW VERSION")
3. B. MAC address of the local router Ethernet port (When you Telnet You are no more in your Router?)
4. C. To prevent routing switching loops in networks with redundant switched paths.
(Spanning Tree Protocol is used only In switching environment)
Hope no more struggling?
world is a Circus?

Well, the time is drawing very near! I would be lying if I said that I wasn't brickin' it, but I guess that's normal...
OK, I am sure everyone has heard all the horror stories about the simulations crashing part way through? That would be horrible! Anyhow, there is a VUE testing centre very near to me and I was going to book there. I want to invite people to share any experiences that they may have had/heard of. From what I have heard, Prometric seem to be the ones that don't seem to have it quite right. I have not heard anything bad about VUE...yet.
Plus, Cisco say that there are 2 general types of simulation; configuration & troubleshooting. The configuration should be a doddle, but the troubleshooting seems a little vague. Is it simply a matter of checking the config on the router in question (ie show run), checking the config & re-doing any config that may be unhappy/non-existant? I am hoping they are more concerned with this (that is, the candidate supplying a proper working config) than whether the candidate runs any pings, or show interfaces, or or or.
Also, what is the deal with connecting to the routers. I have read horror stories on that also, with some people not able to connect from any host, or having to play around with terminal settings etc. I would have thought at least that part would be straight forward and painless, so the testing candidate can get to what really matters - configuring the router. Are there any settings that need to be put in, or is it just like their web site shows - just click on the host and select 'terminal', hit OK and away you go?
I read on the Cisco site & it states that shortcuts are cool, and you don't need to do a copy run start (which seems pretty odd really). I am going to do a copy run start just to be safe. Surely you can't be penalised for doing it?
Anyhow, from what I can gather, if you mess up the simulations, you will not pass the exam. I reckon the concepts will be pretty straight forward, but the testing software sounds like it could be a pain
What says you guys?

Dear Tara
I'm a newbie 2 this group but have a basic and working knowledge of Networks.
Sorry to cut in suddenly but I think the answer to Marcus's Q.4 should be (C.) To prevent routing switching loops in networks with redundant switched paths. STP does this in Layer-2 by electing a root bridge.
The answer B. Routing loops (caused by slow convergence of D-V protocols hence routers are not updated same time) in a Network are prevented by: Split Horizon, Maximum Hop count, Holddowns & Route Poisoning.
What do you think - Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello Tara and all of you CCNA gurus :)
I have been reading this forum through and through and disecting every post just about, but I just now got around to registering :D
I will also be taking my exam very shortly and have found the info in this thread to be a great help. I also read about the unfortunate happenings a while back where files where deleted :(
I tried to join the CCNA607 group but have not gained access yet. My true endevour is to attain these questions everyone has been so desperate to get their hands on from what I have read. These seem to be a great source of knowlege, and have aided many during their trials to get their certification.
I would be very greatful for any help anyone could give me regarding this issue and these questions. My bio is up to date with sufficient information I hope and if not just let me know and i'd be happy to add more aside from my social security number :D
thanks for your help and your time
