I am getting ready to take both the CCNA and CCDA how can the CCDA help with the good old job search. Also how much should one ask for when applying for a new job with the certs? I have 1 yr exp. with networking.

The CCDA certification shows an overall understanding on how to design and propose networks (cisco based) to support business objectives. The CCNA demonstrates the ability to configure and/or troubleshoot routers and switches.
As far as the salary range goes, I am no expert, but it seems a little tough to give you a range. What other experience do you have? Do you have a degree, etc.? How much do you think you are worth. Additionally, contrary to popular belief, certifications are by no means the key to greater salary ranges, but a component of your overall professional experience.

Actually I do not have a degree, I am still working on that one too. I have been in the trenches, being a Network Consultant and a Network Administrator. I have a wide base of knowledge with Microsoft plus now going with Cisco. O' what a feeling. I am using a router from a friend to configure and work on the CCNA side. My goal is to pass my CCNA with this class if I can pass the CCDA then that is an added bonus. I am new to the business world and playing the salary game just wanted some advice.

Well, you our on a fun journey my friend. The business world is interesting, ;).
Again, I am not an expert, but 1 yr of exp. will probably with a CCNA will probably get you about 30k-40k, adjusted for your geographic area. You will probably have to work more than 40hrs. per week.
I'd recommend learning all you can about security, and while you're at it learn programming. With these additional skills, you will make a lot more money.
