yahoo What's the difference or similarities between flooding and broadcasting , second question:
the bridge is software based so what kind of software is a win 2k computer for example is supposed to have besides two NICs to act like a bridge ?
third question :
a Switch is faster than a bridge which is faster than a router and a router is more intelligent than a switch which is more intelligent than a bridge ..are these confirmations true ? and where do you place a hub in this ?....

HUB is the fastest, bcoz it doesn't process frames.

sakamoko Fine. All good answers. But be aware of design issues
If you want full duplex on your NIC's you must use
a switch (or router???). That is because to get 100 full duplex
there must not be any collisions.

Also latency issues with hubs. They may process more
but how about broadcasts and sharing that bandwidth
with the other ports?

bullseye Flooding is when a bridge does not know the forwarding address, IT TRANsMITS THE DATAGRAMS OUT ALL segments except the source segment (port). Broadcasting is sending a data packet to all nodes on a network. Broadcasts are identified by a broadcast address. Routers do not forward broadcasts. A hub would be the quickest, because it sends packets out all ports as they are received. Bridges, swicthes, and routers use the addressing in packet to forward. It only takes miliseconds, but does add to the delay. When considering collisions, the hub will actually make the network slower.
