alanux Q: encapsulation types for ISDN?

Does anyone know the answer to the above q? This is one of braindump questions.

thanks

123456 Well, I am not 100% sure of my answer. It seems that the D channel is using LAPD for encapsulation and the B channels must rely on other encapsulation protocols, such as PPP (which is using a flavor of HDLC as encapsulation). I’ve found this explanation in a book, but I’m not quite confortable with this answer.

What are you guys saying? Any suggestion?

Aryaan Some changes in ur statemnt,

The ISDN are 2 types
BRI -> 2 B Channels (64Kbps each) and 1 D channel (16Kbps)
PRI -> 23 B Channels (64Kbps) and 1 D Channel (64Kbps)

ALL the B channels are used to transport Data and voice
all the D channels are used for signaling and call setup

As said earlier, ISDN defaults only to HDLC encapsulation, if none other is specified.
But Normally PPP is preferred and used all over.

..Aryaan

KSheikh Answer to the question , encapsulation typoe for ISDN IS HDLC AND PPP.

alanux Thank you all for your insights... After a thorough reading, i would agree that the answer to this question is HDLC and PPP. None of the books tells us this.
