Hi,
My Name is Dennis.
I've been studying the CCNA at the Cisco Networking Academy.
I have found that the Academy is too time consuming and it covers too much.
I've had people from my work who recommend to do the 5 day course at a training centre then sit the exam.
I'm not sure what to do.
Can you pls help.
ie: Cisco Networking Academy.
ie: Self study
ie: Comp tech 5 day course.

All of the choices that you have are good... but the one I think is most effective is group study or study with a friend who knows the materials... even if she doesn't know the materials you will still do fine. Sybex and Cisco Press are good study guides... read and do all the exam questions and some practice questions online, you'll be on your way. It is recommended that you purchase a 2501 and practice the command lines... you can get one for less than $700. If you're pursuing CCNP or CCDA, you will have to have atleast a router, so might as well purchase it now while it's cheap.

Take a 5 day course and than practice with selftest software and cheetsheet,s paper notes you will pass the ccna.

Hi,
I think the idea is to learn and then pass the test. If you are happy that the 5 day course will give you the insight and understanding you will need at an interview then its great.
I went down the self-study route. Works for me I read the Sybex book twice and did the CBT ICND (cd)course. Plus I am using the Boson Test software. The money I saved from expensive classes I used to buy my own routers. I am due to sit the exam next week.

I also attended a cisco academy and found it to be too drawn out. I went the self study route (text books, routersim, etc.)and passed the ccna exam with a 967. Just make sure that you are not trying to become an expert test taker. You need to know this stuff.
