I downloaded after buying these following questions from sureshhomepage.com I am wondering if someone could answer these. The bugger is saying since they are 'real' ones he doesn't have answers for them.
1. Which of the following correctly discribes the characteristics of switched and
routed data flows ?
A Switches create a single collision domain and a single broadcast domain,
Routers provide seperate collision domains.
B Switches create seperate collision domains and seperate broadcast
domains, Routers provide seperate collision domains and seperate
broadcast domain as well.
C Switches create seperate collision domains and seperate broadcast
domains, Routers provide seperate collision domains.
D Switches create a single collision domain and seperate broadcast domains,
Routers provide seperate broadcast domain as well.
E Switches create seperate collision domains and a single broadcast domain,
Routers provide seperate broadcast domain.
2.Bio. Inc. has an enterprise server that is shared by all departments. The
accounting departments each have their own fileserver. As network
administrator, You need to ensure a secure seperation exists between the
accounting and marketing departments. What should you do to accomplish this
task ?
A Install a hub
B Install a switch
C Install a router
D Install a bridge

No doubt they are the real test questions I still remember them when I took my test day before yesterday.
Anyway the answers for the questions could be a & f but not sure you can take mine since I ticked the same at my test and got 980 score!

I'm going to have to say:
1. E
2. B
A Bridge would work, but since they dont say the distance in seperationg from the 2 departments, A switch would probably be the *best* answer but may not be the correct one.

The answer to the first one is E, although it is not a complete answer because routers also create seperate collision domains. The answer to the second could be either B or C. But Cisco normally adds enough information to remove the ambiguity from their test. For instance if the second had added "the most cost efficient solution" to the question, it would definetly be a "switch". I doubt these are exactly "real" questions. Hope it helps.

First question has the E) answer. Correct, the router can also create separate collisions domains. For the second one, I am somehow confused.
There are at least two types of departments in the company: accounting and marketing. The key words are "the server is shared " and "secure separation". The only two possible solutions are: switch with VLANs + ISL card for the server (but in this case the departments are isolated) or a router with access lists. It sounds like the best should be C), a router. What do you guys say?

I agree, E is the answer to the first one. For the second one, I believe that C) router would be the best answer because with just the info that is provided a router will definitely provide separation and security; however, all switches do not support VLANS and hence all switches would not provide the secure separation.

I am not aware of any Cisco switches that do not support vlans. Are you? Both departments only have to connect to the enterprize server presumably for logins. If no other outside network services were required, you could use two nics on the enterprize server, one on each Vlan. If other network services were required then you would have to add layer 3 either in a switch or router.

the answer to your question is
E is 100% correct
B is not the only way to do it
With a switch you can set-up Vlans to ensure the separation

Q1- E (%100)Remember that Switch does not crerate broadcast domain.
Q2- C (%100)Again remember that only Router can be secure while using the ACCESS LIST, the rest no has that capability.
Both of this was questions in my exam.

I have encountered this questions. Correct answer is E and C.
A switch can have separate collision domains but only one broadcast domain.
A router connects separate network that is a separate broadcast domain.
